Sentuo Oil Refinery Delegation Engages GSA on Phase II Refinery Dev’t

A team from Sentuo Oil Refinery, together with GreenDev Associates, on Monday, August 31, 2026, engaged officials of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) to discuss the Phase II development of the Sentuo Oil Refinery. The meeting, held with officials of the Material Science Department of the Authority, sought to update GSA on the progress of the refinery expansion project, share relevant technical information, and provide an opportunity for stakeholder input. The engagement also highlighted the refinery’s commitment to ensuring that the project is designed and implemented in accordance with applicable environmental, safety, and quality standards. Speaking during the meeting, the Director of Corporate Affairs at Sentuo Oil Refinery, Mr. Ben Cobblah, indicated that the engagement formed part of efforts to address lessons identified during Phase I of the project and to seek technical guidance from the Authority as the refinery advances its expansion plans. He noted that the refinery remains committed to meeting applicable emissions and environmental standards and welcomed GSA’s input on the project. Dr. Paul Osei Ofosu, the Director of the Physical Science Directorate, in his remarks, stressed the Authority’s mandate to develop and promote standards that safeguard public health, safety, and the environment. He noted that as a petroleum industry operator, Sentuo Oil Refinery is required to comply with relevant Ghana Standards, including those relating to sulphur content, sulphuric acid, bitumen, and other petroleum products. Dr. Ofosu further pointed out the importance of monitoring critical quality parameters such as sulphur and lead levels in petroleum products, adding that GSA adopts and applies internationally recognised standards, where necessary, to ensure conformity with global best practices. Discussions focused on the standards currently being applied by the refinery, quality assurance mechanisms for petroleum products, and the role of GSA in conformity assessment and verification. The GSA officials explained that the Authority can provide technical support through laboratory testing services and may serve as a reference laboratory for independent verification, where required. Other GSA officials who participated in the discussions included Mr. Daniel Boateng-Ofosu, Head of the Material Science Department; Mr. Prince Nyarko, Occupational Health and Safety Officer; Engr. Samuel O. Kontoh, Head of the Chemistry Laboratory; Ing. Lesley Y. A. Awere-Kyere, Head of the Petroleum Laboratory; Ing. Augustine E. Nyangamangu of the Petroleum Laboratory; and Ms. Emma Asirifi-Asare of the Petroleum Laboratory.
