What we know
A delegation from Coca-Cola Equatorial Africa Ltd on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, paid a courtesy call on the Director-General of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Prof. George Agyei, and senior management officials at the Authority’s Head Office in Accra. The engagement provided an opportunity for the delegation to gain a deeper understanding of the Authority’s priorities and perspectives on nutrition, public health, and the proposed Nutrient Profiling Model currently under consideration. Prof. Agyei, in his remarks, emphasised that stakeholder engagement remains a fundamental principle in the development of standards. Drawing from his experience in the standards sector, he noted that whenever new standards or regulatory frameworks are being considered, all relevant stakeholders are consulted and involved in the process. He explained that should the GSA undertake the development of standards related to the Nutrient Profiling Model, key stakeholders, including academia, industry players, researchers and consumers, would be actively engaged to ensure broad participation and consensus. Prof. Agyei also reiterated that, as a member of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), GSA follows established international procedures and best practices in the adoption, development and implementation of standards, ensuring transparency, inclusiveness and credibility throughout the process. The discussions revolved around issues of mutual interest, particularly the role of standards and regulatory frameworks in promoting healthier consumer choices and safeguarding public health. The meeting also served as a platform for both parties to exchange views on emerging nutrition-related initiatives and their potential impact on industry and consumers.
