What we know

A delegation from the German Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) visited the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, to review progress made under the Institutional Partnership Agreement between Germany and Ghana, which seeks to strength quality infrastructure in Ghana, particularly in the areas of construction, materials testing and safety. The engagement highlighted the technical support BAM has provided to GSA over the years. Dr. Norbert Schultes, Head of Division for Institutional Partnerships at BAM expressed satisfaction at the progress made through this institutional partnership between the two countries. The Director-General of GSA, Prof. George Agyei, who chaired the meeting, expressed appreciation for the collaboration and the confidence reposed in the Authority. “It is our belief that our collaboration will move from heights to heights and achieve better results,” he stated. The GSA-BAM partnership was established under a broader Germany-Ghana institutional cooperation framework, supported by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). Its core objective was to strengthen Ghana’s national quality infrastructure, with emphasis on construction materials testing, standardisation, and safety assurance – areas critical to public safety, industrial growth, and trade competitiveness. As part of the partnership, BAM has provided technical expertise, training and institutional support to the GSA. The partnership ends on March 31, 2026
