National AfCFTA Coordinator Pays Courtesy Call on Director-General

A delegation from the National African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Coordination Office, led by its newly appointed Coordinator, Mr. Dode Seidu, on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, paid a courtesy call on the Director-General of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Prof. George Agyei, and members of the Authority’s management team at the GSA head office in Accra. The visit was aimed at formally introducing Mr. Seidu as the newly appointed National Coordinator of the National AfCFTA Coordination Office, while also providing an opportunity for both institutions to discuss areas of mutual interest and explore avenues for collaboration in advancing Ghana’s trade and export development agenda under the AfCFTA. Prof. Agyei congratulated Mr. Seidu on his appointment and assured him of GSA’s commitment to supporting the work of the National AfCFTA Coordination Office, particularly in addressing Technical Barriers to Trade and promoting standards harmonisation across the continent. “We are all working together to ensure the harmonisation of African standards. Currently, nine countries have qualified to use the ARSO Mark, and beyond that, there is also the EcoMark initiative which seeks to promote quality and sustainability across the continent,” Prof. Agyei stated. He further emphasised the importance of strengthening Ghana’s quality infrastructure and called for the institutionalisation of the National Accreditation Service to reduce the country’s dependence on foreign accreditation bodies and its associated costs. Mr. Seidu expressed appreciation for the warm reception and underscored the importance of partnering with key institutions such as GSA to enhance Ghana’s competitiveness under the AfCFTA framework.
