What we know
The Director-General of the GSA, Professor George Agyei, on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, embarked on a familiarization tour at the Tema Port to deepen his understanding of operations at the country’s major entry point for goods. The visit formed part of the Director-General’s engagements with staff of the Inspectorate Directorate at Tema Port to appreciate the critical roles being played in ensuring that imported products entering the Ghanaian market meet the required standards and safety requirements and to assess the challenges faced by staff at the port. The exercise was led by Mrs. Genevieve Baah Mante, the Acting Director of the Inspectorate Directorate, together with Mr. Emmanuel Kwesi Asare, Head of Import Inspection. During the tour, Prof. Agyei interacted with staff of the Authority stationed at the port and received briefings on the various inspections, conformity assessments, and regulatory activities undertaken daily. The team also highlighted the processes involved in verifying compliance with national standards and protecting consumers from sub-standard products. As part of the tour, Prof. Agyei visited the Golden Jubilee Terminal, the MPS Terminal 3, as well as the Pay Point, where he interacted with staff of the Authority. The familiarization visit also provided an opportunity for the Director-General to better understand some of the operational challenges faced by staff and explore ways of strengthening efficiency in the discharge of their duties
